Oh My Goodness...I can't believe it!
When I went in to write this post I saw that prior to
this, I had written 400 posts, so this is number 401.
I think that calls for a WOOT WOOT...
What do you think!!! ;)
I wanted to share with you a fabulous DAYCATION I had in southern Cali
recently. My daughter & grandson & I went down to the San Diego
area to the Cabrillo National Monument, which is located on
the tip of Point Loma & it was absolutely Gorgeous!
Sitting on the point of this beautiful peninsula overlooking downtown
San Diego, is the Historic Point Loma Lighthouse.
Yes, we have an awesome lighthouse right here in southern California
& who doesn't LOVE lighthouses, right!!
The lighthouse was built in 1854 & was the first of 8 lighthouses built
on the Pacific Coast.
Sadly, this wonderful little lighthouse was only in operation for 36 years,
it had a serious flaw. Sitting 422 feet above sea level it's light was
often obscured by clouds & fog. In 1891 it's light was
extinguished forever.
Our little guy Kai, was excited to get in there to explore!
The lighthouse has been restored to it's original 1880 beauty by the National
Parks & is a reminder of a bygone era of large mast sailing ships & oil lamps.
It is an homage to the keepers of the light, the family's that lived in
these lighthouses & nightly climbed the stairs to the top,
to light the beacon that would bring mariners home.
The spiral staircase takes you up three floors, with living
quarters on each floor...
untill at the top, when you come to the ladder that leads to the massive lamp.
This is my favorite picture...Kai had gone ahead of me as usual & as I called to
him to wait, I looked down & saw this...perfection!
Now besides the lighthouse, there is also the Cabrillo National Monument
here, which is fact filled & very interesting, but the part Kai probably
enjoyed the very most was...
the tide pools...
or as they call them, Windows To The Sea.
I LOVE how perfectly round this hole in the rock is.
Inside these pools you find crustaceans & starfish & sea anemones.
Tiny crabs & mussels & algae...
they truly are incredible windows to the sea.
And the entire time you are visiting this awesome place, you are
overlooking the breathtaking San Diego Coastline.
For $5 a carload you can have a day of
beauty, education & fun.

Wow, what a gorgeous place to visit! I'll be adding this to my list of places I want to see.
Your photos are fabulous! Have a wonderful weekend my dear.
Sure does! Looks like a wonderful place! Our beaches are nice here, but we don't have tide pools... Not enough relief I guess...
Your photos do a fabulous job of making us feel that we are right there with you! I grew up on the east coast where we also did day trips to historical places. Great memories! I am now your newest follower as your
creativity really resonates with me! If you ever have a chance, I would love to have you pop on over to my blog .... I will even prepare sweet things to nibble on while you peruse everything..tee,hee!
Oh Susie I LOVE lighthouses!!!! And you shared a great one. I would love to do a visit where I got to do all 8 of the California ones. Going from one to the next to the next... wouldn't that be fun? LOVE that last photo of you & Kai. Cooper (our youngest Grand) will be with me tomorrow for the morning & then on Tuesday he starts 2nd grade. WHERE does the time go? Hope you'll stop by to visit me soon. I've been doing a series on Trisha Fontaine & the amazing place she lives near Golita, CA. HUGS!

Why aren't you writing travelogues? I felt the breeze and smelled the salt reading this. I also got a touch of vertigo looking down!
